benton buckley books has been busy in our efforts to bring the contributing author-designers of Some Like It HOT to local bookstores around Florida. We’ve experienced incredible support from the local south Florida community, collaborating with indie bookstores, like Books & Books, first in Key West, then to its many locations in Miami. After the success of our first event with Books & Books in January with Debra Butler, we followed with two back-to-back events in Miami.

First up was our event at the Coral Gables location on February 19th. We had an incredible line-up of Miami-based designers on a panel to discuss Some Like It HOT. Featured author contributors were interior designers Anil Kakar, Juan Carlos Arcila-Duque, Juan Poggi, Hillary Littlejohn Scurtis, Robert Rionda and Margarita Courtney & Cristina Courtney Boland. On the following night at the Bal Harbour location, we had another group of panelists featuring Amy Herman, Fanny Haim, Lachmee Chin of ODP Architects and Sharron Lannan. Both events were a packed house, with standing room only! Each event was arranged to present our panelists and a moderator from Books & Books started the event by having the designers introduce themselves and posed some initial questions. Then the discussion was opened up to the audience to let them ask their own questions to the Q&A panel.

A fun question posed at the Bal Harbour event was: “If you weren’t an interior designer, what would you want to be?” Lachmee Chin responded to that question saying she would be a race car driver and Sharron Lannan said she would be a rockstar (although, to us, she already is!) Meet and greet book-signing events like these are an excellent opportunity to meet the talent in person and get to know them, pick their brain and find out what inspires them.

After the Q&A session, there was an opportunity to meet all the designers and have books signed. All three Books & Books events have been an incredible show of support for our designers and for Some Like It HOT itself. When it comes to high design, especially in a city like Miami, the community really comes together!
